🌿 Sarracenia ‘Farnhamii’
Sarracenia ‘Farnhamii’ is a beautiful North American pitcher plant cultivar, prized for its upright, tubular pitchers and striking coloration. Like other Sarracenia, it is a carnivorous plant that captures insects in its pitchers.
☀️ Light: Very bright light to full sun. Give it several hours of direct sunlight each day for strong pitchers and vibrant color.
💧 Water: Keep the growing medium consistently wet. Use distilled, reverse-osmosis, or rainwater. Avoid regular tap water because minerals can build up and damage the roots.
🌱 Soil: Use a nutrient-poor carnivorous plant mix, such as sphagnum peat and perlite or silica sand. Never use regular potting soil or fertilizer.
💦 Humidity: Average humidity is generally sufficient as long as the plant's growing medium never dries out.
🌡️ Temperature: Enjoys warm growing conditions during the active season but requires a cool winter dormancy to remain healthy long term.
🪴 Feeding: The pitchers naturally attract and digest insects. Do not feed it fertilizer. If grown indoors without access to insects, an occasional small insect can be provided.
✂️ Maintenance: Remove dead or completely brown pitchers as needed. Keep healthy green pitchers intact so they can continue photosynthesizing.
❄️ Dormancy: A winter rest of roughly 3–5 months with cooler temperatures and reduced growth is important for many Sarracenia. During dormancy, keep the plant moist but avoid excessively warm conditions.
⭐ Difficulty: Intermediate
🌿 Type: Carnivorous perennial
🪲 Diet: Insects
☀️ Best light: Full sun / very bright light
💧 Water: Keep constantly moist with mineral-free water
🌱 Soil: Nutrient-poor carnivorous plant mix
⚠️ Avoid: Tap water, fertilizer, and regular potting soil
