Ornamental Pepper is a colourful, compact plant grown for its abundance of bright, decorative peppers. The fruits can appear in shades of green, yellow, orange, red, or purple, often creating a beautiful display as they mature and change colour. It makes a fun seasonal houseplant or sunny patio accent.
🌱 Light: Bright light to full sun. Several hours of direct sunlight will help produce the best colour and growth.
💧 Water: Water when the top inch of soil begins to dry. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid letting it remain soggy.
🌡️ Temperature: Prefers warm conditions around 18–27°C. Protect from cold temperatures and frost.
💦 Humidity: Average household humidity is generally fine.
🪴 Soil: Use a rich, well-draining potting mix. Good drainage is important to prevent root problems.
🌶️ Fruit: The colourful peppers are ornamental but may be very hot, depending on the variety. They are best treated as decorative unless the specific cultivar is known to be edible.
🌿 Growth: Compact and naturally bushy, making it well suited to containers and sunny windowsills. Small white flowers appear before the colourful fruits develop.
🐾 Pet Safety: Not considered pet-safe. The peppers can cause gastrointestinal irritation if eaten by cats or dogs.
⭐ Care Tip: Give Ornamental Pepper lots of bright light and don't let it dry out completely while flowering and producing fruit. With proper light and watering, it can provide a long-lasting burst of colour.
