Lighting
Very bright light; ideally 6+ hours of direct sun daily.
Watering
Water thoroughly, then allow the potting mix to dry completely before watering again. Water less during dormancy.
Soil
Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix amended with pumice or perlite.
Temperature
Prefers 20–35°C. Protect from cold and keep above approximately 10°C.
Growth and flowering
Slow to moderate growth. Usually flowers in warm, sunny conditions and may drop leaves during winter dormancy.
Plant care tips
-
Pot selection: Choose a pot with drainage holes. Unglazed terracotta can help the soil dry faster.
-
Fertilizer: During active growth, feed with a diluted balanced fertilizer or bloom fertilizer every 2–4 weeks.
-
Pruning: Prune during warm growing weather to encourage branching and a fuller shape. Wear gloves.
-
Propagation: Can be grown from seeds or stem cuttings, although seed-grown plants often develop a more impressive swollen base.
