Spanish Moss is a unique, airy epiphytic air plant known for its long, cascading silver-green strands. Despite its name, it is neither a true moss nor a parasite! It belongs to the bromeliad family and absorbs moisture and nutrients through its delicate leaves rather than growing roots in soil.
Plant Care Guide
Light: Bright, indirect light
Provide bright filtered light with gentle morning sun if possible. Avoid intense afternoon sunlight, which can dry out or scorch the fine strands.
Water: Mist or soak regularly
Mist thoroughly or soak in room-temperature water for about 20–30 minutes, typically once or twice a week depending on humidity. Shake off excess water and allow it to dry completely within a few hours.
Humidity: 50–70% preferred
Appreciates moderate to high humidity and good air circulation. In dry indoor environments, it may need more frequent watering.
Soil: Not required
Spanish Moss is an epiphyte and does not need potting soil. Hang it freely or display it on a suitable support that allows air to circulate around the strands.
