Polka Dot Plant is a cheerful, colourful foliage plant known for its brightly spotted leaves. Depending on the variety, the foliage can feature shades of pink, red, white, or purple contrasting against green leaves. Its compact growth makes it perfect for windowsills, terrariums, and mixed plant displays.
🌱 Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Too much direct sun can fade or scorch the leaves, while too little light may reduce the vibrant colouring.
💧 Water: Keep the soil evenly and lightly moist. Allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings, but don't let the plant dry out completely.
💦 Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity and appreciates good airflow.
🌡️ Temperature: Prefers 18–27°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.
🪴 Soil: Use a rich, well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture.
🌿 Growth: Naturally compact and bushy, but it can become leggy over time. Regularly pinch back the growing tips to encourage fuller growth.
🌸 Flowers: Small lilac or purple flowers may appear when the plant matures. Many growers pinch off the flowers to encourage the plant to focus energy on its colourful foliage.
🐾 Pet Friendly: Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
⭐ Care Tip: For the fullest, most colourful plant, provide bright indirect light and regular pinching. If your Polka Dot Plant becomes leggy, a good trim will usually encourage fresh, bushier growth.
