Philodendron Gloriosum ‘White Vein’ is a spectacular terrestrial aroid admired for its large, velvety heart-shaped leaves and dramatic white-to-silver veins. The striking contrast between the deep green foliage and bright venation makes this a standout collector plant.
🌱 Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid strong direct sunlight, which can scorch the velvety leaves.
💧 Water: Allow the top 1–2 inches of the growing medium to dry slightly before watering. Keep moisture relatively consistent while ensuring the roots never sit in water.
💦 Humidity: Prefers 60–80%+ humidity for vigorous growth and attractive foliage.
🌡️ Temperature: Enjoys warm conditions around 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.
🪴 Soil: Use a chunky, airy aroid mix with excellent drainage. A combination of orchid bark, perlite/pumice, and coco coir or peat works well.
🌿 Growth: Unlike climbing Philodendrons, Gloriosum is a crawler. Its rhizome grows horizontally along the surface of the soil, producing large leaves along its length. Use a wide, shallow pot rather than a deep container.
✨ White Veins: Good light and proper nutrition can help the prominent white venation develop beautifully as new leaves mature.
🐾 Pet Safety: Toxic if chewed or ingested by cats and dogs due to insoluble calcium oxalates.
⭐ Care Tip: The most important thing is to keep the rhizome above the soil surface. Burying the rhizome too deeply can trap moisture against it and increase the risk of rot.
