Ornamental Pepper is a colourful, compact plant grown for its abundance of bright, decorative peppers. The fruits can appear in shades of green, yellow, orange, red, or purple, often creating a beautiful display as they mature and change colour. It makes a fun seasonal houseplant or sunny patio accent.
š± Light: Bright light to full sun. Several hours of direct sunlight will help produce the best colour and growth.
š§ Water: Water when the top inch of soil begins to dry. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid letting it remain soggy.
š”ļø Temperature: Prefers warm conditions around 18ā27°C. Protect from cold temperatures and frost.
š¦ Humidity: Average household humidity is generally fine.
šŖ“ Soil: Use a rich, well-draining potting mix. Good drainage is important to prevent root problems.
š¶ļø Fruit: The colourful peppers are ornamental but may be very hot, depending on the variety. They are best treated as decorative unless the specific cultivar is known to be edible.
šæ Growth: Compact and naturally bushy, making it well suited to containers and sunny windowsills. Small white flowers appear before the colourful fruits develop.
š¾ Pet Safety: Not considered pet-safe. The peppers can cause gastrointestinal irritation if eaten by cats or dogs.
ā Care Tip: Give Ornamental Pepper lots of bright light and don't let it dry out completely while flowering and producing fruit. With proper light and watering, it can provide a long-lasting burst of colour.
