Hoya parasitica 'Black Margin' is a beautiful tropical vining plant admired for its dramatic foliage. Its broad, glossy green leaves are outlined with a deep, dark margin that can appear black or burgundy under bright light, creating a bold contrast that makes it a standout in any Hoya collection.

As an epiphytic vine, it naturally climbs trees in tropical forests, making it ideal for growing on a trellis or allowing to trail gracefully from a hanging basket. Mature plants reward growers with clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers that are creamy white to pale yellow with a pink or reddish center, often releasing a sweet fragrance in the evening.

Care at a Glance

  • Light: Bright, indirect light. A small amount of gentle morning sun can enhance the dark leaf margins.
  • Water: Water thoroughly, then allow the top half of the potting mix to dry before watering again.
  • Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (50–70%), though it adapts well to average indoor conditions.
  • Temperature: 18–30°C (65–86°F). Avoid temperatures below 12°C (54°F).
  • Soil: A chunky, airy mix containing orchid bark, perlite, and quality potting mix provides excellent drainage.
